Finding an injured raptor can be distressing, but knowing how to respond can make a difference. Here are some steps to follow if you find yourself in this situation:

1. Assess from a distance: Do not approach or touch the bird unless it’s in immediate danger, like on the side of the road

2. Contact a wildlife expert: Call local wildlife rehabilitation centers or animal control. In Brookline, you can reach out to MassWildlife at 508-389-3600 or the Animal Rescue League of Boston at 617-426-9170

3. If safe, provide containment: If the bird is in immediate danger and you’re trained, use a towel to cover and place it in a ventilated box. Do not feed or treat the raptor.

Always prioritize your safety. Thank you for helping us keep our raptors safe and healthy.
